If I Can Live Through That, So Can You!

Have you ever had a moment in your life where everything went so well you felt infallible? And have you then had everything come crashing down?

Between 2006 and 2008, I ran a thriving business helping youths-at-risk through team building programs in schools. I’ve just branched into overseas team building and I felt on top of my game.

If you were with me on 18 June 2008, you would feel the hot sun on your neck and adrenaline pumping as we played soccer. You would have seen me slip and fall and maybe even that kick to my face. All I remembered was an excruciating pain and waking up in the hospital being unable to speak or see.

I suffered multiple fractures to my skull. Doctors told me I was lucky to be alive. I thought my life was over.

I couldn’t talk. I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t see properly and what’s worse? My insurance just lapsed a week before. I couldn’t work, as I couldn’t speak. It took me a year to recover physically. I had to re-learn how to speak and do simple movements I had taken for granted. It was a very financially and emotionally trying year.

In 2009, back into my business, we met H1N1. Schools didn’t want team building. My business again got stalled. Luckily I got roped in to help to bring corporate clients to Mt Ophir so I could survive a little longer.

After H1N1 blew over, I started Community Involvement Programs (CIP), bringing schools to Cambodia and Vietnam. However in 2012, I was again dealt a hard hand. MOE’s new policy allowed only 50 companies to do overseas program for students and we were not on that list. It was another trying period.

In 2013, I decided to go full into corporate. And I’ve been doing that since.

I still have 35 screws left in my head from the accident. I left them in as reminders that I can get through anything. Next time you feel life has dealt you a bad hand, remember me and my 35 screws. If I can live through that, so can you.
