Where Mentors Come Together To Create A Better World

Be a Mentor Request a Mentor

Voices Of Asia welcomes you to be a mentor. It is no easy task to be a MENTOR, and so we celebrate your decision to be one.

What it means to be a MENTOR?
The knowledge, advice, and resources a mentor shares depend on the format and goals of a specific mentoring relationship. A mentor may share with a mentee information about his or her own journey, at home, work or self. A mentor may provide guidance, motivation, emotional support, and role modeling. A mentor may help with exploring careers, setting goals, developing contacts, and identifying resources. The mentor role may change as the needs of the mentee change.

Voices Of Asia provides training and tools to help simplify your mentoring journey, and to make it more meaningful for you. Throughout this agreed time together, a mentor advices, set actions, checks back on the progress and help the mentee progress forward. Voices Of Asia regularly checks back with the mentor during the process.

Mentor Selection
Our mentors are selected by invitation and is someone who

  • Has a heart to impact lives
  • Strong credibility in the marketplace
  • Has facilitation and workshop experiences

While you have a willing heart to serve as a mentor, it is not easy being one. A mentor needs to be mentored too. So please do feel free to request for a mentor yourself, and set yourself on this journey forward. Remember to also come for our EMPOWER events because they are designed just for you.

Meet Our MENTORS.

Focus my energy on appreciating the small things
I work hard everyday to make the effort to take stock of what I have today and being grateful for all the good and bad events that happen in my day. My core belief is that we will be able to give/share something positive (love, respect, kindness, gratitude) to other people, only when we know how to appreciate the gifts/sharing others give to us, no matter how big/small or good/bad, and understand that that is the capacity of what they are capable to give/share at that point in time. I value integrity, and appreciate when people are open to constructively share their thoughts and beliefs as it is through communication that we better understand ourselves and other people.

A Clear Career Goal Points Everything Along
When my company scaled down its operations in Singapore about 13 years ago, I was asked to work in the US. I had a choice, to either move over or to leave the company. At the time, my dad was unwell. For the first time in my life, he was insistent that I stayed. I did think it was strange but I didn’t think much about it as I had always been travelling for work so I went.

I received a call one night, “Apa’s very sick, Doctors said it is serious. Come home quick!”

I started to question "What is the Meaning Of Work?" I realized the importance of having a firm goal. Hear how this may work for you too.

RESILIENCE. A Key To Success.
As a young man, I had big aspirations: I dreamt of wealth and fame, of houses and cars. Financial prosperity was important to me, and I strived hard to achieve my ambitions. Thus, when I was supporting my family with barely thirty thousand dollars a year, I thought I had failed. With a second child on the way, I was struggling to make ends meet. My dream slipped away – there was no way I could make it big in the finance sector as I inched closer to a dead end. I tried to move into higher paying industry, but recruiters everywhere told me the same thing. Listen to how I climbed back up and the valuable lessons I have learnt.

A Big Step Of Faith
"Every step I take will only take me to someplace better.”

Happiness however is subjective – how does one even begin to define it? I woke up one day, and the typical idea of happiness, financial success, stability and security stopped making sense to me. I felt an uneasy discomfort one that I had not known before. My internal dialogue repeatedly called out ”There must be more. I was meant for more than this”

Every step takes you a step forward. Hear how I took steps of Faith which got me to where I am today.

How Are You Creating A Better World?
As I was clearing my cupboard the other day, I came across a stack of notes I wrote during a workshop many years ago. This is what I wrote “ My life purpose is to make a difference in the lives of others.” As I reflect on my life experience, living out the purpose of making a difference does not necessary entail pursuing grand, heroic acts. I realized the little things that I do every day can make a difference to the lives of others if I had listened to their unspoken needs and acted with a magnanimous heart. Hear how my career has thought me meaning and purpose in creating a better word for all.

Happiness in the Simplest Things Of Life
At 60, I count myself fortunate, I’m in a position which many would count envious. I’ve taken great positions in 4 different companies, on 4 different continents. I have a beautiful wife and 2 beautiful children. However, the person I’m most envious of, is my good friend who coincidentally goes by the same name as me, Steve. I learnt that you can be happy no matter what you do. That’s why at 60, I don’t envy the high flyers of the world, I envy Steve of Scarborough for he has learnt to be happy. I have learnt that happiness doesn’t lie in that new house or car. It lies in taking care of your needs and those of your family and simply appreciating all that life has given you. Let me share my journey with you.

Purpose – Your Best Friend In Tough Times
Parents, think back on the first time you set eyes on that beautiful baby. When you first held their hands and felt them squeeze your hand back. What went through your mind at that point? Remember that squeeze in your heart and that tear in your eye? Wow!

Life is not always easy but with a big enough “Why” and a new purpose, I came through. Being suddenly thrown into that responsibility wasn’t easy but it gave me a purpose to work towards and from there, the power to pull through life’s toughest moments. Listen to my story
